It was originally built in 1938, with the secondary plant constructed between 1975 and 1979 after enactment of the Clean Water Act. The BSA has continued to improve and upgrade the plant with over $30 million of capital investments made in the past 10 to 15 years. New centrifuges and sludge pumps will be the highlight of the NYSSPE tour.
BSA Staff will be avaible until 3:30 for additional questions and more in-depth facility tours if desired.
Hard hats and steel-toes shoes recommended.
South entrance to Unity Island (formerly Squaw Island) is closed due on-going W. Ferry Street Lift Bridge repairs.
To enter BSA through the north gate, cross the Black Rock Canal via the International Railroad bridge, accessible from Niagara Street, just north of the Niagara Street / Tonawanda Street spilt, following signs to Unity Park.
